Anthology Writing and Art Submission Rules

So you want to enter the anthology that will be "Kneel Downe's Stolen Indie" do you? Brilliant! Welcome aboard. However, before you excitedly spend your precious time writing or drawing/painting, please take a moment to read the Terms and Conditions of entry so you aren't disappointed if we can't publish you. These are unfortunately necessary rules as there is both a printing restriction and some legal requirements that need to be adhered to.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Submitting work to this anthology indicates your agreement of all the terms and conditions below.

Written Work

Please send entries via email to VirulentBlurb@gmail.com with the subject header Anthology.

Entries may be in any style – poetry or prose – but must be 1000 words or fewer, excluding the title.

Please include the title of your work and your name as you would wish it to appear in the anthology in your email. If you have a website and would like it linked to your entry if it is published on the VirulentBlurb website, please add that information to your email. If you are on Twitter and want to be tweeted when your work appears on the VirulentBlurb website (see Prizes) please also include that.

We are not able to accept collaborative written work, although art collaborations (one artist, one letterer) are accepted (see below).

You may enter as many times as you wish but each author may only be selected by the judges to appear once in the printed anthology, although multiple entries may be published on the VirulentBlurb website.

The anthology will be aimed at a mature audience so entries do not have to be deemed “safe for work” and may include swearing, violence and other themes of an adult nature.

All work should be based on the theme “Stolen” and cannot have been previously published.

PLEASE, NO FAN FICTION. We cannot accept stories or poems that use characters or scenarios recognisable from other work that you do not have the copyright for, so e.g. no Doctor Who, Batman, Sherlock, VirulentBlurb etc. If you have an established character of your own from previous published work that you have full rights to, we can accept those.

The filename of attachments must be the title of the entry and it must be either a .doc, .docx, .rtf, .pdf or .txt file. You may also send in your entry within the body of your email rather than as an attachment but please make it obvious where the entry begins and ends.

Art Work

Please send entries via email to VirulentBlurb@gmail.com with the subject header Anthology Cover.

The anthology will be US Trade Size, portrait, 6” x 9” or 15.24 cm x 22.86 cm so please proportion your design to fit.

The artwork may be of any type, whether photography, hand or digitally created or combination of these, as long as the final submitted image is digital and of the required size and quality as stated below. We cannot accept paper copies of entries.

The filename of attachments must be your name and it must be either a .pdf, .tif, .png or .jpg file of a resolution no larger than 800 x 1200 and 150 dpi in the first instance. If your entry is chosen to be the cover you will be asked to provide a file that is at least 300 dpi, 1800 x 2700 in order to create the cover at a printable quality.

The anthology will be aimed at a mature audience but the cover image should be considered as being “safe for work” and should not be overly graphically, sexual or violent in nature.

All work should be based on the theme “Stolen” and cannot have been previously used in a publication or sold for profit.

You do not have to include the titles within your design but, if you wish to, it should read:

“Kneel Downe’s Stolen Indie” and have “An Anthology” on a separate line.

The writing may be in upper, mixed or lower case and in any typeface that is freely available for commercial use or is designed by you and hand lettered.

If you with to collaborate with someone to do your lettering for you (one artist, one letterer only please), please include their name and details with your own as an equal partner and ensure they have read these Terms and Conditions.

Please include your name(s) as you would wish it to appear in the anthology and in any further credits in your email. If you have a website and would like it linked to your entry when it is published on the VirulentBlurb website, please add that information to your email. If you are on Twitter and want to be tweeted when your work appears on the VirulentBlurb website (see Prizes) please also include that.

If your artwork does not include the titles and is chosen to be the cover, you will work with Blurb artist in residence Susan Omand to come up with a graphic design that you both agree will be used.

You may enter as many times as you wish and multiple entries may be published on the VirulentBlurb website although only one entry over all will be selected for use as the book cover.

PLEASE, NO FAN ART. We cannot accept images that use characters or scenarios recognisable from other work that you do not have the copyright for, so e.g. no Doctor Who, Batman, Sherlock, VirulentBlurb etc.
